More than 20 days ago, the Damascus government closed the crossings with the Autonomous Administration areas, in light of the Turkish occupation state's cutting off the waters of the Euphrates River, in a move to starve the people of north eastern Syria.

The matter raised the resentment of al-Tabqa people who considered it a closure targeting their livelihood.

The owner of one of the shops in al-Tabqa, Osama Haddad, said to our agency that the closure of the crossings negatively affected the commercial movement in the area, which led to high prices and a lack of materials which encouraged some monopoly trading.

Haddad noted that the government took this step in light of Turkey's occupation of a number of cities in north and east Syria, and said, "On the one hand, the Turkish occupation exists on our lands, and on the other hand, the Damascus government is restricting the citizen's livelihood."

The citizen Mohammed Al-Sultan agreed with him that the target of this closure is the citizen, and added, "This is when we are on the verge of the month of Ramadan, when the markets are witnessing an outrageous increase in prices."

Al-Sultan called on the concerned authorities to find quick and urgent solutions regarding the closure of the crossings.

The citizen Fatima Al-Ali, in turn, reported that she suffers from heart disease, and said that the closure of the crossings by the Damascus government hindered her from traveling to receive treatment.

For his part, the citizen Ahmed al-Mansour denounced the closure and considered it "arbitrary by the government of Damascus," stressing that this led to high prices, especially medicines and their monopoly on citizens, as well as the variation in prices from one pharmacy to another.
