The Union issued a statement dubbing the Turkish authorities' refusal to allow his lawyers and families of detainees to visit them in Imrali prison is a "flagrant violation of international human rights law," the union said in its statement:

We got informed from the Al-Asir Office in Istanbul that the Turkish Public Prosecution, summoned on March 25, the families of Ocalan and his companions in Imrali Prison, Mr's Helmi Yıldırım, Weissi Aktas and Khairy Kunar, to communicate with them through the phone.

And Mr. Mehmed Ocalan, brother of the leader Ocalan, had a three-minute call with the leader and it was cut. Likewise, Mr. Hilmi Yıldırım’s call with his family was very short.  And Mr's. Weissi Aktas and Khairy Kunar condemned and rejected this non-legal approach from the Turkish state and refused to make calls with their families.

Famously, since April 27 of 2020, no news has been received about Ocalan, and  meeting him last time, was on August 7, 2019, but after the news went viral on social media on March 14 regarding the leader's health, the situation calls for daily meetings with the leader's lawyer with him, and conducting the necessary medical checks, but the Turkish state still refuses requests his lawyer's requests to meet his client.

Today, there is no confirmed, clear news about Ocalan's situation, so checking on his health is an urgent need. So the Turkish state must facilitate the lawyers' visit to their clients.

The Turkish state’s refusal to allow the leader's lawyer meet his client is a flagrant violation of international human rights law, because it is one of the prima facie rights of a prisoner, guaranteed by all international and national covenants. Or imprisonment approved by United Nations General Assembly Resolution 43/173 of December 9, 1988, and in particular the principles of numbers 1-6-18-19 / which affirm the impermissibility of psychological torture and inhuman treatment with a prisoner and affirm the right of the prisoner. In the meeting with his family and with his lawyer.

We, in the NES's Union of Lawyers, appeal to the United Nations bodies and the human rights organizations to put pressure on the Turkish government to stop its violations against the leader Abdullah Ocalan and his companions in Imrali prison, and to lift the isolation. It shall immediately allow the Al-Asir Human Rights Office and a medical delegation accompanying him, meet the leader and his companions, to check on his health status and meet him."
