​​​​​​​Derar: Solution is through UN

In response to the statements of the foreign ministers of Russia, Turkey and Qatar against the Autonomous Administration, he said: "We do not consider such polarizations of benefit to the Syrian people because the solution must be through the United Nations' resolutions without giving priority to the interests of one party at the expense of another, and it must be in the interest of the people in Syria."

The talk of the Syrian Democratic Council's Co-chair, Riyad Derar, came in a statement to our agency in response to the recent media statements of "Russia, Turkey, and Qatar" foreign ministers who declared their open hostility to the Syrian Democratic Council's project in the Autonomous Administration and resolving the Syrian crisis.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that he had agreed with his Turkish and Qatari counterparts to fight what he described as "separatist attempts in Syria", referring to the people in north and east Syria who administer their regions through the Autonomous Administration.

The statement came through a joint press conference between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, his Qatari and Turkish counterparts; Mohammed bin AbdulRahman Al Thani and Mevlut Çavuşoglu, after a meeting that brought them together in the Qatari capital, Doha.

Derar said: "We are also with the unity of Syria and with the fact that there is a Syrian political solution through the efforts of the United Nations and its published documents, especially Resolution 2254. We, in the Syrian Democratic Council, are also against division and separation, and we believe that the Syrian people are one and sovereign, not in the sense of dynasty because Syria includes many peoples; there are Arabs, Kurds, Syriacs, Assyrians, Turkmens, and others."

He added: "Therefore, the Syrian people have a political characteristic and on the basis of which we move, and we call for unity among all opposition forces to reach common goals that can confront the authoritarian regime and properly assess their affairs, until reaching a decentralized and democratic Syria."

About the recent rapprochement between Qatar and Russia and to what they are seeking, he said, "Coordination of regional countries with Russia is a matter of competition and conflict between Russia and America in particular, and attracting some countries in favor of this or that party."

He continued: "This does not bring any positive result that achieves stability for the Syrian people because the Syrian people revolted for their dignity and freedom, and Russia is seeking the regime regaining control again, in addition to imposing its vision on the course of the Syrian revolution."

The Co-chair of the Syrian Democratic Council, Riyad Derar, affirmed that United Nations' resolutions must be adopted for a straightforward political solution that changes the authoritarian regime into a true democratic one.
