The group of intellectuals called for action to introduce the issue of Ocalan and his people, in fulfillment of the close historical ties that brought together the Kurdish and Arab peoples, through the launch of the "Arab Initiative for Ocalan's Freedom" in the Arab sector, on February 15, the 22nd anniversary of the international plot against the leader Ocalan.

In this context, Shaaban said that the members of the initiative are confident that the solidarity of the free peoples in the world is capable of liberating the leader, just as Nelson Mandela has been freed in South Africa before.

In a special statement to ANHA agency, Shaaban explained that the role of the "Arab Initiative" is now important, noting that more than 8,000 signatures got from Egyptian and Arab intellectuals and politicians in its early days.

He pointed out that the initiative will also seek to introduce the Kurdish issue, expose the Erdoganist fascist war crimes, and mobilize popular support for Ocalan.

He went on : “We are confident that the steadfastness of the Kurdish people, and the solidarity of the free people of the world, will fulfill hopes for releasing the leader and thinker Ocalan, so that he will return to complete his historical role, among his people and comrades in his struggle, from the Kurds, Arabs and from all peoples of the world."

It is noteworthy that the Arab Initiative for Abdullah Ocalan's Freedom confirmed in a statement during its launch that it “will work in the intellectual and cultural field to define the path and ideas of Abdullah Ocalan and his cause, and to mobilize support for the just demand calling for his release, after this long period of suffering, disease and isolation, in a prison cell. In isolation, in a remote detainee, deprived of his most basic rights to life and to communicate with his countrymen and people. "
