A statement was released by the Kurdish Language Association, the SZK, marking the International Mother Language Day, corresponding to February 21st.

All repression and obliteration operations taken against the Kurdish language in all occupied parts of Kurdistan at the hands of the ruling powers were adumbrated at in the statement.

'' in the 21 century, as ''freedom''  and ''equity'' slogans are circulated and as the international community alleges striving for democracy and supporting the repressed, we see in Eastern Kurdistan how people as Ferhad Kemankar, are being hanged for teaching Kurdish, an how arbitrary sentences are being passed against teachers of the Kurdish language, such as Zahra and others, and in Northern Kurdistan a young man was murdered just for singing in Kurdish, and in Southern Kurdistan centers for teaching Kurdish are being outlawed in Kirkuk by the Iraqi Federal Government.

''in Rojava, Western Kurdistan, after Syria was afflicted with destruction and demolition in the course of 10 years, the government at Damascus is still refusing to acknowledge the Kurdish people in the constitution and still views the Kurdish in a fascist mentality .

The SZK congratulated all peoples all over the world on the International Mother Language Day as well as calling on the international community to take rapid action against all endeavors aiming at the obliteration of the Kurdish language, as well as all the Kurdish people and Kurdistan associations to spare no efforts to give protection and increase development to the Kurdish language, for it was by virtue of the language that the Kurds survived genocide''.
