Shaheen Lali: international fact-finding commission must be sent to Garê

The co-chair of the Lawyers Union in Jazira canton, Shaheen Lali, appealed to all lawyers and human rights defenders and international criminal courts to put an end to Turkey's crimes, calling for UN investigation commission to the Garê region.

On 10 February, the Turkish occupation violently attacked Garê region, and the Media Center of the People’s Defense Forces said in a statement: The Turkish occupation used chemical weapons against the prisoners of war camp in Garê.

In a statement issued by the Media Center of the People’s Defense Forces on February 16, it was stated: “The People’s Defense Forces managed to reach the camp, but despite the passage of 3 days after the attack, there is a smell of chemical gases in the prisoner camp and its surroundings, and because the fascist Turkish state has used chemical weapons against this camp, and these weapons are internationally prohibited, and their use is considered a war crime, and one cannot enter the camp, and there is a high possibility that the people inside the camp were killed with chemical gases first, then were shot at. "

Commenting on this, our agency interviewed the co-chair of the Bar Association in Al-Jazira canton, Lawyer Shaheen Lali, who demanded that a fact- finding committee be sent immediately by the United Nations to investigate the Turkish occupation’s use of chemical weapons in its bombing on Garê region in Başûr Kurdistan.

Regarding the attacks of the Turkish occupation army on the Garê region, Shaheen Lali explained, “An attack by any country on the land of another country is in itself a war crime, because this land has sovereignty, so Turkey has violated international laws and conventions in launching its attacks on the Garê region.

Regarding Turkey's use of chemical weapons in the Ciani camp in the Garê region, Lali added: "The international community must immediately send a fact-finding committee to the region, provided that this committee is affiliated with the United Nations and then transfer it to the International Criminal Court, to hold Turkey accountable for its crimes."

About the lies of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Defense Minister Hulusi Akar about the People’s Defense Forces’ killing of prisoners, Lali said, “ If the People’s Defense Forces wanted to get rid of the prisoners, they would have eliminated them since they arrested them, so Turkey is trying to cover up its crimes. ”

The Turkish occupation did not show any respect for international laws

Lali added, "The violations that occurred in the Garê region, and its continuous attacks, whether they were on legitimate defense zones or northern and eastern Syria, are war crimes, and Turkey, by its actions and practices has not shown any respect for international laws."

Regarding the position of the international community, Lali said that the international community should exert pressure from the media and human rights aspects and form a fact-finding committee under the supervision of the United Nations, and go to the Garê region and search for the type of weapons used during the attacks.

At the end of his speech, Shaheen Lali appealed to all human rights defenders and jurists to put an end to Turkish violations and crimes and punish them for their actions.
