The mercenaries of the Turkish occupation army, during the past two days, cut down 80 olive trees, whose age exceeds 70 years, according to the indigenous population of Afrin.

A source from Afrin canton confirmed that 40 olive trees that were affected by the cutting works belong to the citizen Muhammad Muharram, from the village of Kafr Shilya, affiliated to the Afrin district, where his orchard is located in Tawil village of Afrin district as well.

While the other 40 are owned by the citizen Faiq Muhammad, from the village of Jaqla in the Shia district, and his orchard is located under the graves of the Zaydiyya neighborhood in the center of Afrin as well.

Afrin olive tragedies do not end at all with the seizure of trees and olive presses, but rather begin with cutting down trees, selling them or even burning them, which threatens the demise of the vegetation cover, as the factions set fires on large areas of land planted with olive or pomegranate trees, grapes and forest trees.

Since the occupation of Afrin three years ago, human rights and humanitarian organizations have documented similar cases that affected tens of thousands of olive trees.
