Neither people in the region was spared of massacres perpetrated by the Ottomans, Armenians, Syriacs, Assyrians and Chaldeans all underwent massacres, as the Turkish swords decapitated more than a million and a half of Christians from the start of the First World War until the new Turkey was formed.

With the start of the Syrian Revolution, depending on mercenary groups, a new war was launched by Recep Tayyip Erdogan against people of the region to displace them from their lands and annihilate them, but Syriacs, Assyrians and Chaldeans have never forgotten events of 1915, so they organized themselves within military units based on the Self Defence System and the right to Self Defence.

In this framework, Syriac Military Council was formed by the Syriac people on January 8th, 2013, to avoid new massacres.

Syriac Military Council, the MFS, is deployed  mainly to Syriac and Assyrian villages close to the city of Hasaka, Tal Tamr, Tirbe Spiye, Derik and Qamishlo.

In September 2015, a new military unit named Bet Nahrain Women Protection Forces was set up by the Syriac Military Council, and in July 2019, it was merged with Khabur Guard Forces to form the Syriac -Assyrian Military Council.

Syriac Military Council has been one of the main military units that participated in the formation of the Syrian Democratic Forces, the SDF, in October 2015, as the latter was engaged in wars with ISIS on behalf on the whole world, that came to an end geographically in March 2019.

In this relation, spokesperson for the Syriac Military Council, Aram Hanna, said that due to the big impetus given by the Chaldean -Syriac component, the Syriac Military Council was formed, that is being armed with will and takes the responsibility to protect and defend the syriac people and others in the region.

Aram added that the Syriac people takes from unity and cohesion with all Syrian components in North Eastern Syria the impetus to surpass and overcome all challenges and hardships that was resulted in the formation of a private military force.

Forces of the Syriac Military Council took part in many military expeditions against ISIS mercenary groups and those of the al-Nusra Front, as well as the Turkish Occupation Forces.

Syriac Military Council took the side of the Peoples' Protection Units, the YPG, and Women's Protection Units, the YPJ, against mercenary groups of the al-Nusra Front as well as those of ISIS in the offensive on the town of Tal Hamis and Tal Brak on January 26th, 2013, until the two towns were liberated in February 2015.

In coincidence with victory over ISIS and other mercenary groups that were instigated by Turkish orders, many attacks were launched by ISIS mercenary groups late in February 2015, against Christian villages on the Khabur River in western Hasaka, with the aim to control the strategically important town of Tal Tamr in which the Syriac Military Council was stationed as a main force, but the attacks were foiled due to cooperation between the Syriac Military Council and Peoples' Protection Units, the YPG, and Women's Protection Units, the YPJ.

In addition to that, forces of the Syriac Military Council under the umbrella of Syrian Democratic Forces, the SDF, took part in the campaign of the al-Hol Liberation on November 13th, 2015, and that of Shadadi in February 2016, in the aftermath of which 42 persons of the Assyrian people that were abducted in February 2015 by ISIS were freed.

Of the most vital military campaigns in which the MFS took part, in conjunction with Bet Nahrain Women Protection Forces is the Raqqa Liberation Operation, that came to an end in October 17th, 2017, as well as taking part in the liberation of the rural Deir Ezzor that was commenced in September 2017, and lasted until ISIS was ended geographically in March 2019, as well as defending the city of Afrin against the Turkish Occupation Forces in addition to operations in rural Tabqa, the Tishrine Dam and the city of Manbij against ISIS mercenary groups.

On July 6th,  2019, the formation of Syriac –Assyrian Military Council was announced by the Syriac Military Council and the Khabur Guard Forces in a bid to unify all Assyrian and Syriac military bodies in the region of Khabur.

Aram Hanna says:'' since the Turkish Invasion of the two cities of Sere kaniye and Gire Spi on October 9th, 2019, forces of the Syriac Military Council are concentered on the frontline in the Khabur basin- Tal Tamr and repel the continued attacks carried out by the Turkish Occupation Forces and the affiliated mercenary groups on Tal Tamr and the Assyrian villages.

Aram said:'' we well know that if the mercenary groups affiliated to the Turkish Occupation Forces succeed in occupying the area all churches would be demolished as the people would be abducted for merely they don’t share the ideology adopted by the ISIS mercenary groups''.

Aram assured at the end that they have got a military might and an experience in fighting, due to the participation of their forces in the military campaigns against ISIS mercenary groups, and defending the region against attacks carried out by the mercenary groups affiliated to the Turkish Occupation Forces giving allegiance to all peoples in the region to proceed resistance and to defend all gains made in the region as they are being threatened constantly.
