At a time when the people of the occupied areas in north and east Syria are exposed to various forms of violations and crimes at the hands of the Turkish occupation army and its mercenaries, Turkey seeks to continue the policies of demographic change in the region by resettling ISIS families and Iraqi refugees there, and granting them identity cards.

These practices have been met with categorical rejection by the indigenous people of Serêkaniyê, politicians, intellectuals and various social actors, as the notables of Arab tribes in north and east Syria see that Turkey aims to replace the indigenous people of the region with the families of ISIS mercenaries to repeat the events of 2016 and revive ISIS in the region again.

Al-Sharabeen clan's notable in north and east Syria, Ahmed Khedr, expressed his rejection of the Turkish occupation policies in Serêkaniyê, and said: "The Turkish state has no right to settle peoples who are not of Syrian nationality in the region, and Turkey, with these moves, seeks to colonize the region."

Khedr described the violations of the Turkish occupation in the occupied territories, especially Serêkaniyê as "injustice and colonialism against the people of the region," stressing that Turkey is trying to restore the Ottoman caliphate to control the peoples of north and east Syria.

Khedr commented on the Turkish occupation's issuance of cards or granting nationalities to Iraqi families inside Serêkaniyê and said: "The identity cards that Turkey gives them are illegal cards and are not recognized by any country," stressing the need for the people of the region to hold on to their land and homes, so that they are not vulnerable to the occupier."

For his part, Abddel Rahman Mohammed from al-Sharabeen clan in Tel Tamr district indicated that Turkey's main goal is to replace the original Serêkaniyê residents with families belonging to ISIS mercenaries and Iraqi refugees, and to normalize them with an Ottoman character. He said: "Turkey has stated more than once that it wants to control the countries that used to be under  the Ottoman Empire previously, and now it is trying to occupy those areas to restore the Ottoman Caliphate."

He added: "Turkey's goal in resettling ISIS families in Serêkaniyê is to revive ISIS mercenaries again, and to repeat the events of 2016."

Mohammed stressed the need to unite the efforts of all clans and components of north and east Syria to deter Turkish attacks on the region, and said: "The attacks and violations of the Turkish occupation target all components of the region, but with our cooperation we will be able to regain all the occupied areas."

In his turn, al-Yassar al-Taiya clan's dignitary, Hussein al-Humreen, stated that Turkey is trying to change the demographics of the region and displace their original inhabitants from their areas to return to the era of the Ottoman Caliphate.

Al-Humreen stressed the importance of the role that Arab tribes play in guiding members of society and raising their awareness about the danger of occupation and said: "All tribes in north and east Syria must play their pioneering role in alerting the people of the Turkish state's danger."
