Lamis Abdullah: International community should not be silent about Turkish violations

The co-chair of the Executive Council of the Autonomous Administration in the Euphrates region, Lamis Abdullah, criticized the Russian silence about the attacks of the Turkish occupation state on Ain Issa, and called on the international community at the same time not to remain silent in the face of Turkey's violations and attacks on the region.

For more than a month, the Turkish occupation state and its mercenaries have continued the military escalation operations in the vicinity of Ain Issa district, which is witnessing almost daily shelling and ground attacks launched from the Turkish-occupied areas in northern Syria.

In this context, Lamis Abdullah, the co-chair of the Executive Council of the Autonomous Administration in the Euphrates region, noted, “The Turkish attacks on Ain Issa and its villages were repeated in a brutal and indiscriminate manner this month, and heavy weapons were used on the overcrowded area with defenseless residents and civilians, which caused physical and human losses.”

She noted that despite the continuous attack on the region, the people of Ain Issa took a strong popular stand by holding a sit-in against the Turkish occupation and its brutal attacks, rejecting anything threatening their security and stability.

Lamis emphasized, "These attacks aim to control Ain Issa region, for its strategic location on the M4 road, being an international road and a transportation node between the regions of northern and eastern Syria, which negatively affects the Koban canton to become almost besieged."

Observers point out that the Turkish occupation state aims to occupy Ain Issa district, in an attempt to separate the regions of northern and eastern Syria from each other and weaken them, so that it can occupy more Syrian lands.

Lamis Abdullah explains that Turkey is taking advantage of the transitional period in the United States of America to achieve its goals by occupying Ain Issa and besieging Kobani.

She added, "Turkey has not adhered to the agreement it concluded with Russia and America, which were the guarantors of the ceasefire, and while they remained silent, Turkey continues to violate the terms of the agreement, and to commit violations against defenseless civilians, children and women."

Turkey and Russia reached an agreement on October 22, 2019, which stipulated 10 items, including the withdrawal of the Syrian Democratic Forces to beyond 30 kilometers from the Turkish-Syrian border, and a ceasefire in addition to conducting joint Turkish-Russian patrols at a depth of 10 km in the regions. The border with Turkey, and the Syrian government deployed its soldiers on the border.

The co-chair of the Executive Council in the Euphrates region called on the international community not to remain silent in the face of Turkey's violations and attacks on the region, and said, "We call on Russia in particular to take a stand in the face of these violations and to perform its duties as a guarantor of the ceasefire."
