Leyla Guven arrest is clear evidence of Turkey's arbitrary policy against women

The Free Women's Association in Syria condemned the default judgment against Leyla Guven and said that this act is a clear evidence of Turkey’s arbitrary policy against women.

This came in a statement issued by the Free Women Association in Syria (The Euphrates region branch) to the public opinion, with the participation of a number of members.

The statement was read in front of the Women's Association building in the city of Kobane by the Administrator Rojin Hassen, and it reads:

"The Turkish state's default judgment against the Kurdish politician and parliamentarian Leyla Guven for a period of (22 years) is a clear violation of all international covenants.

In addition, the work it undertook is clear evidence of her arbitrary policy against women.

With these actions, it seeks to break the will of the free and struggling women who demand justice, equality and democracy in society, and the decision of illegal rule is considered incompatible with moral and human values.

We in civil society organizations and institutions condemn and denounce this action, and we appeal to women's organizations, human rights organizations and the international community to break their silence about what the Justice and Development Government is doing, and not to legalize these practices.

In its conclusion, the statement stressed the continuation of defending the rights of women who are persecuted in light of the oppressive and arbitrary policies of the Turkish state.

The statement concluded with slogans that salute women's resistance and prisons' resistance.
