Austrian MP: we support an international tribunal for ISIS

An Austrian MP for the Austrian Peoples' Party has called for setting up an international tribunal in north eastern Syria to charge the ISIS detainees, confirming that the international community has to take responsibility in this relation, as countries reject to expatriate it's citizens who joined the ISIS.

A delegation from the Austrian National Council met officials in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, yesterday evening at the Foreign Relations Department.

The delegation that arrived yesterday morning, via the Semalka crossing point, is made up of Ewa Dziedzic, of the Austrian Green Party, and Reinhold Lopatka, of the Austrian Peoples' Party, the professor for political sciences at the Vienna University, Thomas Schmidinger ''.

The visiting delegation was received by co-chair of the Foreign Relations Department in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, Abdul Kareem Umar, and Dania Ramadan, and representative of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, in Europe Mizghine Ahmed.

In a media statement, the Austrian parliamentarian of the Peoples' Party. Reinhold Lopatka, made clear the reasons behind the visit and the outcome of discussions held with officials in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, in addition to projects of the Austrian government in the region.

Lopatka expressed his thanks to the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, and the efforts exerted to combat ISIS, saying:'' in relation to what have you made for Europe it is shameful that the international assistance rarely or never reaches here''.

Lopatka touched on the ISIS fighters issue, saying:'' our government backs an international tribunal to charge ISIS fighters, and all cruelties committed, it is very important to charge them and even sentence those responsible for all these atrocities''.

Lopatka added : '' this is not only your problem, rather it is ours too, we should say directly that many European governments not interested in expatriating such terrorists, setting up such an international tribunal and then putting them into prisons, is so expensive''.

The visit is the second of it's kind by a delegations from Austria, into North and East Syria, but the first to reach the city of Qamishlo after the first one since October 2019.
