Masterminds of assassinations in Deir ez-Zor towns arrested

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have arrested the two masterminds behind the recent attacks in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, where the leaders of the ISIS-affiliated "Al-Faris and Al-Jarrah" cells, admitted their responsibility for several terrorist operations.

Since the geographical elimination of ISIS in March of 2019, the SDF have pursued ISIS sleeper cells in the regions of northeast Syria.

These sleeper cells targeted some social figures, civil institutions and members of the Syrian Democratic Forces in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

In a security operation, on last November 29, the Democratic Forces arrested two ISIS-linked cells known as "Al-Faris and Jarrah", and they include 6 mercenaries, who are responsible for several explosions in the area.

The "Faris" is led by the mercenary Suleiman Hamed Al-Salabi, which was active in the town of Al-Susah, while the "Jarrah" under Basil Jumaa Al-Mousa leader, and it was active in the town of Al-Sha`fah. The two cells are responsible for 8 terrorist operations in the region.

The mercenary Al-Salabi, nicknamed "Faris," is responsible for planning, managing and reporting news to the "Amaq" agency, it broadcasts ISIS news, based on his definition of himself, during a meeting with our agency.

Al-Salabi comes from the town of Al-Susah in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, born in 1988, from the Agidat Al-Hassoun clan, married with 3 children, and joined ISIS mercenaries in 2017, as a leader for the cell early this year.

As for Basil Jumah Al-Musa, nicknamed "Abu Jarrah Al-Shami", he is considered the official in charge of the Al-Sha`fah cell, and he is affiliated with the mercenary Suleiman Hamed Al-Salabi since 2015.

The mercenary Basil Al-Mousa admitted that he had taken part in several battles with ISIS during his presence in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, in addition to the battles of Al-Haditha district in Iraq at the end of 2017, to work after his injury in those battles as a member of sleeper cells.

They confessed 8 terrorist operations against the notables of the region and the SDF

The mercenaries confirmed, during our ANHA's meeting, that since last March, they have carried out 8 terrorist operations, targeting the notables of the Arab clans in the region, the Syrian Democratic Forces, and some civil society institutions.

The mercenaries announced that they were behind targeting Waji of Al-Susah Town, Jaafar Ayyub Al-Faris, the house of the head of Council Muhammad Al-Shwaini, the mayor of Al-Susah municipality, Asaad Al-Matar, exploding the Women's Home in the town of Al-Sha'fah, exploding Al-Sha'fa Council, and exploding the house of a member of Al-Shaafa Al-Shaafa "Abu Issam", and exploding a military vehicle in Al-Sha`fah, and shooting fighters in the Syrian Democratic Forces.

According to Faris, they used weapons and explosives that were hidden in the Al-Baghouz and Al-Susah camps, and financial support of "Wali of Al-Khair Province" known as Salman, and confirmed receiving the money through remittance offices.

He indicated that they were reporting to ISIS media. He said, “We used to communicate via mobile phones with the ISIS’s media.

Multi-linked sleeper cells are active in the area and some leaders in the Syrian Democratic Forces have confirmed that there are ISIS cells, and others belong to the Damascus and Iranian government, and some work under Turkish orders.
