The Turkish bases continue to shell the town of Ain Issa and the surrounding villages almost on daily basis, in clear violation of the decisions of the Sochi meeting between Turkey and Russia on October 22, 2019, in which one of its provisions stipulated the ceasefire agreement.

During one week of targeting the northern neighborhoods of Ain Issa, 11 civilians were wounded, including a 3-year-old child, in Turkish artillery shelling from a number of military bases north of the M4 highway.

Between November 17 and 23, the largest Turkish military escalation in a year took place, as between 250 and 300 artillery shells fell near the largest Russian base in the town of Ain Issa.

Hundreds of demonstrators from the town’s residents protested in front of the Russian base against so-called “Russian complicity” with the Turkish shelling operations, and demanded the Russian forces and the Syrian government army to deter the Turkish attacks.

A statement by the Military Council of Girê Spi / Tal Abyad district after the recent failed Turkish attack criticized “Russia and the Damascus government forces’ silence on the lines of contact,” despite the Russian government guaranteeing the security of the region and the conduct of the ceasefire process.

During the Turkish shelling last Saturday, a Russian patrol that was on the international road, which included a number of military vehicles, withdrew and returned to their base in the town, after a number of missiles fell near the international road.

The Syrian Democratic announced that it shelled with heavy weapons dozens of military bases of the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries near the M4 within the framework of the legitimate right to defense.

The Syrian Democratic Forces confirmed in an official statement, last Tuesday, that 18 mercenaries were killed in the attack, including a former ISIS emir and the leader of the attack known as "Ismail Eido", before SDF allowed the Turkish occupation to transfer mercenaries’ bodies from the village of Maalak, after continuous nine-hour clashes.
