U.S. Embassy suspends its works in Turkey after reports of possible attacks against Americans

The American mission in Turkey announced the temporary suspension of all its activities after it said that there were reliable reports of terrorist attacks and kidnappings against American citizens and foreigners in Turkey.

The U.S. mission in Turkey received credible reports of terrorist attacks and potential kidnappings against American and foreign citizens in Istanbul, as well as against the United States General Consulate and other possible sites in Turkey, according to a statement published by the U.S. Embassy in Turkey on its website.

the U.S. Embassy in Ankara said: "American citizens are advised to exercise extreme caution in locations where Americans or foreigners may congregate, including large office buildings or shopping malls."

It added: "All visa services for American citizens at the American mission facilities in Turkey, including (the United States Embassy in Ankara, the American Consulate General in Istanbul, the American Consulate in Adana and the U.S. Consulate Agency in Izmir) will be temporarily suspended."

Individuals with scheduled appointments will be notified by email with instructions on how to reschedule their appointments, according to the Embassy.
