Local residents told Agence France-Presse that ISIS mercenaries in West Africa invaded, on Tuesday evening, the Cocoa region in the Lake Chad region.

According to the same sources, the mercenaries have detained hundreds of people who have just returned to their town after spending two years in a camp for the displaced.

The exact number of hostages held by the terrorist organization is not known. Papakura Colo, leader of a civilian auxiliary force, said, "ISIS terrorists took control of Cocoa on Tuesday evening and took hundreds of civilians who had just returned to their homes as hostages, after they sought refuge for two years in a camp to escape the violence."

"The terrorists attacked the town with 22 trucks around 16:00 GMT yesterday, and they clashed with soldiers guarding the city," Papakura Colo added.
