Serekaniye camp to receive displaced living in shelters in Al-Hasakeh

The Hasakah Canton Council, in coordination with the Social Affairs and Labor Authority in Al-Jazirah region, announced in a press conference opening of Serekaniye camp to receive the displaced living in the shelters, with the aim of emptying schools of the displaced.

The Hasakah Canton Council, in coordination with the Social Affairs and Labor Authority in the Al-Jazirah region, held a press conference regarding the inauguration of a new camp for the Serekaniye IDPs who were displaced after the Turkish attack on their areas on October 9 of last year.

Because of the Turkish attack, more than 80 schools in the city of Hasakah have turned into shelters, which has caused pressure on other schools in terms of education, and school hours have been divided into 3 periods distributed between all school levels.

The conference, which was held in the camp east of Al-Hasakah city in front of the spinning plant, which was called the Serekaniye camp, was attended by the co-presidency of the Social Affairs and Labor Authority in Al-Jazirah region Walida Bouti and Hussein Al-Ali, the co-chair of the Office of Refugee Affairs in Al-Jazirah region, Gulestan Osu, and the co-chair  of Serekaniye camp Zamzam Hussein and Saleh Al-Hamidi.

The conference began with a speech by the co-chair of the Social Affairs and Labor Authority in Al-Jazira region, Hussein Al-Ali and Walida Bouti, in both Arabic and Kurdish, and Hussein Al-Ali said at the outset of his speech, "Today we announce the opening of the Serekaniye camp to receive the displaced living in the shelters, and as a first stage 620 tents have been cleared to house 620 families. "

 Hussein Al-Ali added, "We will receive the displaced on the 20th of this month, and the camp is well equipped with regard to vital facilities, sewage, electricity and drinking water, and the camp has a capacity of 2,660 tents."

At the end of the conference, they appealed to humanitarian and international organizations to provide a helping hand to the displaced and internally displaced people in the Serekaniye camp.
