US State Department decries Turkish occupation attack on Kobani

In a statement, the US State Department condemned the Turkish occupation's attack on Halanj village in the countryside of Kobani, and called for a political settlement in the country.

The US State Department said in a statement: "We express our deep sympathy for the families of the dead and wounded civilians in Syria as a result of the terrorist attack in Tel Halif and the air raid in Kobani."

The US State Department called on all parties to focus on achieving a long-term political settlement to the conflict in Syria in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2,254.

"The continuing cycle of violence hampers hope for any such solution, and we reiterate our strong support for the calls of the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Special Envoy Geir-Pedersen for an immediate ceasefire at the national level, and we support Special Envoy's efforts to facilitate a political solution," the statement added.
