Civilians are concerned about using M4

Turkey and the mercenaries of the so-called “Syrian National Army” occupied parts of the international road / M4 / after the attack on the cities and regions of northern and eastern Syria, through which they targeted the cities of Serêkaniyê and Girê Spî last year.

Russia and the Turkish occupation reached on May 23^rd an economic and political consensus on opening the road to facilitate the movement of civilians, according to their claim.

The Turkish occupation army and its mercenaries from the “Syrian National Army” factions committed great crimes and violations on this road, in the forefront of which is the heinous crime they committed on the 11^th of October 2019 against the Secretary General of the Future Syria Party, the martyr Hevrin Khalaf.

This first convoys passed on the road was last Monday morning, May 25^th, consisting of armored vehicles of the Russian military police, and some civilian cars that have transferred the people wanting to use this road, after cutting off lasted for more than 7 months, according to the Sochi agreement concluded between the two powers, which provides for the opening of the international road linking Syrian cities and regions.

Although it was opened several days ago, the road did not witness a heavy movement by the civilians because of their lack of confidence in the Russian guarantees for fear of being targeted by the occupation army and its mercenaries, as happening in all other Syrian regions.

To shed more light on this issue, Hawar news agency went to the international road M4 to find out the opinions of civilians about the opening of the road and their concerns despite Russian guarantees.

Edriss Namo, the owner of a transport office in Tel Tamr city said: “The agreement that was concluded between the Russian forces and the Turkish occupation state regarding the opening of the international road M4 does not have a significant impact on civilians because of the low turnout of civilians on the road.”

Namo explained that the failure to use the international road that connects between al-Jazeera and the Euphrates regions by civilians is due to their fear of the massacres of the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries despite Russian guarantees.

He added: “The M5 which connects Idlib, under the control of the Turkish occupation and the factions of mercenaries loyal to it, witnesses targeting civilians and banditry despite Russian-Turkish guarantees.”

Namo indicated that the M4 road is the artery that connects the cities of al-Jazeera region with the Euphrates region, and the people want to go to their areas, but they are afraid of being targeted by the Turkish occupation army and its mercenaries, and continued: “The Russian forces must ensure the road more, and coordinate with the Syrian Democratic Forces to maintain the safety of citizens.”

The citizen Fawaz al-Saad from al-Tabqa city stressed that they are greatly afraid of marching on the international road for fear of being targeted by the Turkish occupation army and its mercenaries, calling for the removal of the Turkish occupation army and its mercenaries from the road to return security and stability to the region.
