Al-Assad: Turkey's actions on ground expose its intentions

The Syrian President Bashar al-Assad discussed with the Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, what is called the Constitutional Committee, Astana process, and the ongoing aggression by Turkey on the Syrian sovereignty.

On Monday, al-Assad met with the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in the Syrian capital, Damascus.

According to the official agency of SANA, the meeting dealt with the latest developments of the political track, including the Constitutional Committee, the Astana process, and the developments in the Syrian north in light of the ongoing aggression by Turkey on the sovereignty and territory of the Syrian Arab Republic, whether by direct occupation of the land or by increasing the number of what it calls points of control which are really military bases.

Al-Assad stressed that "Turkey's actions on the ground expose the truth of the Turkish intentions by not adhering to the agreements that were concluded either in Astana or in Sochi, which all provide for recognition of the sovereignty and integrity of the Syrian territories."

For his part, Zarif denounced during the meeting "the current western attempts to reinvest the issue of chemical weapons in Syria."
