Today, in Baylasan hall, in Amouda, a conference was held under the title "Enhancing the Approach to Democracy and Participation in Northern and Eastern Syria", and its activities focused on the constitutional process and the reasons for excluding the people of the northern and eastern regions from it.

The conference was attended by Ilham Ahmed, head of the Executive Board of the Syrian Democratic Council, the co-chair of the Executive Council in the Civil Administration of Deir Al-Zour Ghassan Al-Youssef, academics, lawyers, intellectuals, independent personalities, representatives of civil society institutions, representatives of the Kurdish, Arab and Syrian political parties, and the National Council parties were absent, despite the fact that Aso Center for Strategic Studies, organizing the conference, has sent them invitation.

The activities of the conference started with the formation of a bureau of 5 persons, who are: “head of the Executive Board of the Syrian Democratic Council, Ilham Ahmed, and the co-chair of the Executive Council of the Civil Administration in Deir Al-Zour Ghassan Al-Youssef, in the name of the Yazidi component Faris Shamo, and the independent personality Musa Hanna and the lawyer Dilasha Ayu.”

At the beginning of the conference, the attendees criticized the absence of the representatives of the National Council from the meeting, and the discussions focused on the demands and aspirations of the components of Syria from the constitutional process that was recently formed in Geneva? And why were the components of northeastern Syria excluded from the Constitutional Committee?

Ilham Ahmed replied that when the negotiation process begins, especially in a country like Syria, which is multi-cultural, multi-national and multi-confessional, social, cultural and national diversity must be taken into consideration. A committee should be formed according to the diversity of Syrian society.

Ilham Ahmed noted that when the Constitutional Committee was formed, there were agendas and external interference in the Syrian political process directly, bearing in mind that the United Nations is the primary supervisor of the decision to form the committee, but the committee did not result in anything, and the reason is the absence of representatives of the northern and eastern regions of Syria from it as a result Turkish veto.

Ilham Ahmed made it clear that the exclusion of representatives of northern and eastern Syria, i.e. components of a third of the Syrian geography of about 5 million Syrians from the Constitutional Committee, is a fatal mistake, committed by the United Nations first because it is responsible for the formation of the constitution, and said: "The exclusion process is the result of the Turkish veto, and the whole world became captive to Turkish decisions. "

The attendees made clear through their statements that any constitution drafted for Syria where people of northern and eastern Syria are excluded is an illegal constitution and does not represent the Syrian people and aspirations, and they affirmed that it is not possible to draft a constitution for Syria and Turkey occupying parts of the Syrian lands.

The conference activities concluded with the formation of a committee of 9 people to follow up and draft the results of the conference in its final statement.
