Iran admits shooting down Ukrainian plane as

"The shooting down of the Ukrainian plane by Iran is a great tragedy, and an unforgivable error," Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said in a tweet on his official Twitter account, Saturday.

Hassan Rouhani stated in another tweet that "Iran is very sorry for the unintentional shooting of the Ukrainian plane."

For its part, the leadership of the Iranian army stated that those responsible for the Ukrainian plane disaster will be immediately referred to the judiciary.

On Saturday, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif presented his country's "apologies" for the Ukrainian Boeing disaster, after the Iranian armed forces admitted that "the plane was shot down".

"A sad day," Zarif wrote on Twitter.

 Adding that "a human error in the period of crisis caused by the American adventure trend led to the catastrophe," expressing his "deep regret, his apologies, and his condolences to our people, the families of the victims, and other nations affected by the tragedy."

The Ukrainian plane had crashed in conjunction with Iran firing missiles at US bases in Iraq, in response to the killing of Qasim Soleimani.
