Economic Committee… Hard work to develop internal economy in al-Raqqa

The Economic Committee of al-Raqqa Civil Council is working to put forward future plans in order to improve the internal trade in al-Raqqa through a series of tactical plans and the ensuring of the return of the factories and other foundations to work as soon as possible in the light of the great facilities for investors and industrialists.

Al-Raqqa city has witnessed a significant decline in the internal trade recently as a result of what the city was exposed to during the occupation of Daesh mercenaries in early 2014, where large numbers of the shops, factories and vital foundations had been closed, which improve the internal economy in al-Raqqa city and provide employment opportunities.

With the formation of al-Raqqa Civil Council on the date of 18/4/2017, a number of committees emerged, including the Economic Committee, which was the first in its civil work, which undertook the improvement and development of the internal trade in the city, which had suffered a lot in its previous economic crises during Daesh domination through which the main roads were cut off and the entry of goods was prevented.

The co-chair of the Economic Committee, Rashad Kordo said: "The city of Raqqa is the best area in the Syrian map from the agricultural and industrial point of view. The Economic Committee started its work in rehabilitating the irrigation channels because of the importance of agriculture in al-Raqqa, which plays a major role in improving the city's internal economy such as grain silos, bio-plants and huge water pumps.

Rashad Kordo said that the Committee worked to increase coordination with the owners of commercial and industrial shops in order to accelerate the opening of their shops, where the Committee on Economy undertook the entry of all goods and food and industrial products to the city of al-Raqqa.

And added, "The expected output of the wheat crops in al-Raqqa is estimated at 600,000 tons of wheat, and the surplus for al-Raqqa, as the agricultural institutions buy them from farmers. Thus, farmers will not have to store their wheat season and will not be exploited by monopolistic traders."

At the end of his speech, Rashad Kordo called on all owners of commercial, industrial and real estate stores to return to the city of al-Raqqa and participate in the development of their internal economy to build the city of al-Raqqa."
