MSD confirmed that Afrin liberation is one of its priorities

January 20th marks the first anniversary of the beginning of the Turkish aggression and its mercenaries on Afrin canton, the massacre of Turkey, the kidnapping, torture and displacement of Afrin people. The Syrian Democratic Council (MSD) issued a written statement to the public on the occasion of the anniversary of these attacks.

The statement said:

"A year after the Resistance of the Age in Afrin, a year of the Turkish occupation army and its mercenaries' launching aggression on Afrin, the occupation occurred during the heroic resistance shown by the People and Women Protection Units (YPG and YPJ) and the people of Afrin that lasted for 58 days and deserved to be the Resistance of the Age. Because of the huge difference between the two parties whether in terms of numbers or equipment, the scene of the championship and the resistance declared by the people as an option and principle amid international silence and complicity.

We, in MSD, at a time when we salute the Resistance of the Age to the people of Afrin which turned to the inspiration and hope of the people oppressed in the liberation of freedom and martyrs who numbered more than a thousand martyrs of civilians and military, call with insistence, cohesion with the resistance that entered its second phase since the occupation of Turkey and its mercenaries to Afrin for the return to Afrin within the scene of January 19, 2018, the day before the aggression and then the occupation, the return of Afrin in a safe and stable state according to its democratic model which was considered the best solution to the Syrian crisis and the return of stability and security. We salute the allied forces of the Syrian army, which participated in the 33rd day of resistance and defense of Afrin as part of the Syrian geography which is no different from Horan, Damascus and Qamishlo. We salute all martyrs of resistance and freedom.

We also call on all friends of the people of Syria, Afrin, supporters of freedom, forces, parties and secular national democratic figures in the Middle East and the world to support Afrin and consider the 20th of January as the International Day of Solidarity with Afrin, demanding the United Nations, the Security Council, human rights organizations, international amnesty and civil society organizations the right of our people in Afrin. We condemn all those involved and hold them accountable.
