Executive Body: We reject buffer zone run by Turkey

The Executive Council of North and East Syria's Autonomous Administration issued on Wednesday a statement to the public rejecting the establishment of a buffer zone run by Turkey in northern Syria.

The statement said:

"Since the beginning of the Syrian crisis, Turkey has been aiming to occupy the Syrian territory by various means, using different methods; the use of the mercenaries of Jabhet al-Nusra and IS and the direct occupation of the Syrian cities such as Jarablus, al-Bab and Azaz, Idlib and finally Afrin. Moreover, it has been threatening the areas of northern and eastern Syria of the military occupation.

Now, Turkey is trying to pass its occupying plan through the buffer zone that is suggested to be established in the north and east of Syria. As the administration of North and East of Syria, we reject the establishment of the buffer zone in our land because it targets the Syrian sovereignty, leads to the occupation of our territories and aims to undermine the democratic model formed by the peoples of the region. How can Turkey supervise the buffer zone while it is a party in the conflict? We reject any Turkish occupation of our lands in any form and name.

We appeal to the international forces, the United Nations and the International Coalition to prevent this blatant violation of our regions. If there would be a zone of separation of the conflict between us and the Turkish occupation, this is possible only with international peacekeeping forces and under the auspices of the United Nations."
