For 2nd  week, demonstration against high living in Turkey

For the second consecutive day, the Confederation of Trade Unions of the public sector in Turkey called for a massive demonstration against inflation and high cost of living in Turkey.

Thousands of workers and employees who have been protested on Saturday in the streets of Istanbul held banners that indicate the movement of yellow vests in France which started as a demonstration against the rise in fuel prices before gaining momentum and turning into protests against the government according to Agence France-Presse.

The demonstration comes a week after a demonstration called by the Confederation of Trade Unions of public sector employees, in which thousands participated in protest against the high cost of living in the northern of Amed city of North Kurdistan.

The economic situation has been deteriorated in Turkey in recent months because of the devaluation of the Turkish lira against the background of diplomatic tension with Washington in the summer of 2018 and the rejection of markets economic policies of Ankara.

Since the beginning of 2018, the Turkish lira has lost about 22.5 percent of its value against the dollar.

Turkey's economic growth slowed 1.1 percent in the third quarter compared to the previous quarter, raising fears about occurring a recession.
