“Steadfast in the path of women's freedom till getting her rights”

Jurists of Afrin residents in al-Shahba issued a statement on the World Day for Combating Violence Against Women. The statement was read in Berxwedan camp by a member of the Social Justice Council, Rojin Sheikho.

The text of the statement:

"Tomorrow marks the World Day for Combating Violence Against Women, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly as a day when international and local communities remember the public and private violence committed against women in all parts of the world and their communities without any real accountability that reduces the number of crimes committed against them throughout the day and year. Despite the claim of societies freedom and advancement and despite the achievement of its leadership and ethical goals in the international and local arena and reach the highest ranks and departments, but the injustice and violence practiced against them more than a thousand times those noble goals which seek to achieve the service of humanity is not equal to zero, but in exchange for a prison or captivity of a woman or executed without any legal or even political right as it was being in the history of time.

So far, thousands of Yazidi women are still in unknown cellars and prisons. Is not it a shame that the world stands without any defense or accountability for the worst crime committed against women and young women in this century, the crime of selling women in the market of slavery? Is it not a shame that the women elected in the municipalities of Turkey are imprisoned until this hour without any legal or human rights and international organizations and associations that deal with women turn a blind eye to what is happening against them?

Hundreds of women in the safe city, Afrin, are now subjected to various forms of torture, intimidation, murder and abduction by the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries, and international and regional communities and women's rights organizations are silent despite appeals by jurists, civilians and politicians to save them.

On this World Day for Combating Violence against Women, we condemn the practices committed against Yazidi women and political women who are being executed in Iran and who are subjected to the most horrible forms of deprivation and imprisonment in Turkey. The women in Afrin are subjected to practices by the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries. We will fight for the liberation of women."
