Oldest village in al-Jazeera region ,its association with Kurdish history

AL-LHASAKAH/DELSOZ DELDAR

The village is located on the right bank of the Khabour river, 7 km west of Tel Tamar district, 47 km northwest of al-Hasakah city, it has an oval shape.

According to the head of the Japanese mission at the University of Tokyo, Yoshihiro Nishaki, " Suker al-Ahimr" hill dates back to 8000 BC. This is the oldest village in al-Jazeera region, it is older than Tal Hlef in serê Kaniyê city which dates back to 3000 BC.

The admenistrator in the Antiquities Protection Derectorate Siban Ismail "There are about 1200 archaeological hills in al- Jazeera region, so far only 30 hills have been explored so it is impossible to predict that " Suker al-Ahimr"  village is the oldest .

Ismail pointed out that the importance of the village comes because it is near the Khabur river, in addition to the north of Mesopotamia civilization (the first civilization in the world).

The culture of " Suker al-Ahimr hill is linked to the culture of the Taurus mountains

Yusuf Kanjo who was the researcher and director of archeology in Aleppo city, in his book (of 100 Archaeological Ssites in Syria), confirms that the culture of the hill is linked to the culture of the mountains of Taurus (a mountain known in the geography of Kurdistan in the northern part) according to the model of the houses in this hill.

" Suker al-Ahimr" hill was discovered and documented in 1991 by a French mission, before excavation began in 2000 by a Japanese mission from the University of Tokyo.

30% of the hill has been excavated so far

The  member of the Department of Antiquities Protection in Hasakah Rewshen Ali Said, "We are working  now to protect these archaeological sites, because it prevents the excavation of archaeological sites during the wars, which led us to wait and stop the work of excavation,"  They did not communicate so far with the mission that was excavating this hill, but they are working on taking pictures of the site each year to see changes in the place, whether by weather or human.

Rewshen Ali Said," the Japanese mission has been excavating 30% of the hill so far."

What did the mission discover from the hill?

 According to information published on the Internet and seen by the Hawar news agency, the Japanese mission discovered residential buildings with stone foundations, built of mud, inside which were found archaeological finds, pottery dating back to the seventh millennium BC.

Tools such as (stone axes, blades), broken stone vessels, and a pottery fragment from the Stone Age (4500-3100 BC) were also found.
