Akef denied talks between TEV-DEM, regime

Kamal Akef denied holing any negotiations between the Democratic Society Movement (TEV-DEM) and the Syrian regime. He said that the Syrian regime have not taken serious steps in the negotiations, and that these rumors will not serve the interest of the two parties.

TEV-DEM's Diplomatic Relations Center organized a weekly press conference at its headquarters in Qamişlo city, and the meeting was attended by a number of journalists.

During the press conference, a statement was read in Kurdish and Arabic by the spokesman of TEV-DEM's Diplomatic Relations Center Kamal Akef.

After reading the statement, Kamal Akef answered journalists' questions about the latest developments ongoing in the Syrian arena and Rojava. In response to a question about the validity of what is being said about negotiations between the TEV-DEM and the Syrian regime, he said, "TEV-DEM is ready to participate with the rest of the Kurdish parties active in Rojava in those negotiations." He added, "So far, no serious steps have been taken in the negotiations by the Syrian regime, about whom it will participate in those negotiations. Since the beginning of the Syrian crisis, we have been calling for the unity of the Kurdish ranks, but some parties try to create obstacles to obstruct the unity of the Kurdish position."

Akef noted that they do not consider the military logic as a solution to the Syrian crisis, and they reject this step.

Akef said that the people in Rojava are ready to resist in case the regime followed the military logic. He added, "Our people have the right to protect themselves. No one can impose themselves on the components of the area by force."

Kamal Akef denied the existence of practical steps of negotiations between TEV-DEM and the Syrian regime.

Akef concluded, "The Syrian regime must know that things are no longer the same as before. The regime has to get closer to the components of the Syrian north on this basis during the dialogue."
