During its attack on Afrin, the Turkish occupation army planes targeted the schools of the canton and destroyed most of them, therefore, the Education Committee of the democratic Society in the canton was forced to suspend the study in order to ensure the safety of the students.

Following the brutal attacks by the Turkish occupation army and its mercenaries, Afrin residents fled to al-Shahba canton, which is the nearest point of Afrin, they took the canton as a place of stability and continue the Resistance of the Age in its second phase, they opened their institutions and every institution did its work and reorganized itself.

On 3 June, the Education Committee of the Democratic Society opened the primary schools in Sherawa and al-Shahba to provide education to 25,000 students, schools are now opening for the preparatory and secondary levels so that students of both stages can complete their studies in the second semester of the 2017-2018 academic year, all with very little potential and many difficulties in terms of securing teaching supplies.

The committee began opening the first preparatory and secondary school in the Tal Kerah village of Ahras district in al-Shahba, in one of the schools of the village that was destroyed.

A member of the Education Committee of the Democratic Society in Afrin canton, Zenar Alloush said that the first goal of the Committee after moving to al-Shahba was to return students to the seats to ensure that their future is not lost "and also to prove to the enemies and the world that we will complete our study at any place and time.

"We have recently opened primary schools in the villages and camps of al- Shahba and the villages of Sherawa district, and then we have opened schools for middle and high school students so that students can complete the second semester of 2018-2017," he added.

According to Alloush, the committee opened the first school in Tal Karah to teach the preparatory and secondary stages with the accession of 170 students and the appointment of a teaching staff at the school, in the village school, which was severely damaged by the battles that took place years ago.

"We have done all this work on our own, and with great difficulties in securing supplies for schools and students because of the siege in al-Shahba canton, we are going to continue to open preparatory and secondary schools throughout the canton, but we need help because our capabilities are limited," he said, he appealed to all human rights organizations and concerned authorities to provide the children of Afrin and al-Shahba canton
