Wheat harvest began amid weak production in al-Raqqa

Harvesting the wheat crop began amid weak production of the crop in the result of the rains which caused torrents and floods at an inappropriate time.

After the heavy rains that fell on May, The people of the eastern countryside of al-Raqqa began to harvest the wheat crop amid a great weakness in production which made the farmers to suffer from significant losses.

In this regard, the farmer Abdul Karim Jabbar from al-Karama town talked to ANHA Agency and said, "We started on Sunday to harvest the wheat crop, and the production was very weak compared to the past years as a result of rains that have fallen lately and the floods that have led to change the wheat’s normal color to black color and damaged the crop.

Al-Jabbar added that in the past seasons, the production of one dunum was estimated at 5-6 sacks of wheat. While in this season, the production is only 1-2 sacks.

Al-Jabbar stressed that the people in the eastern countryside of al-Raqqa rely in their livelihood on agriculture and livestock breeding as a major resource, and the low production this year will worsen their financial situation.
