Qamishlo’s Industrial Secondary School needs specialized teachers

Industrial craft is one of the most important economic pillars in addition to agriculture in the world, and in order to qualify professionals and experts in this field, industrial vocational schools are one of the basics of professional qualification for the advancement of this profession and self-sufficiency based on local industry without imported products.

In the last quarter of 2017, the Pedagogy and Education Body of al-Jazeera region opened the industrial vocational secondary school in Qamishlo city, after it had been closed since 2012.

About 373 students in grades 10, 11 and 12 are divided into seven sections: informative, electron, mechanical, Lathe, welding, carpentry, and electricity sections.”

About 20 teachers teach the educational subjects who have experience in theory and practical application, but there is a shortage of teachers and cannot meet the need of the study and thus the secondary school suffers from lack of teaching, especially in practical application.

A teacher in the electricity department, Mohamed Hussein, believes that the vacuum is due to the circumstances of the war and the crisis that Syria has suffered over the last seven years. This has negatively impacted all aspects of social and economic life, leading to widespread unemployment within high rates. Many of the experienced and manpower have been forced to migrate to other countries. "The region now has few experienced industrialists."

On the importance of industry, Hussein said "In order to secure safe future for every student we hope to come to the industrial vocational school, because the industry in any country is the pillar of its progress, because we need hands capable of inventing machines to achieve self-sufficiency from various industries, , And saving money paid for imported industries for local industry."

For her part, the administrator at the industrial secondary vocational school in Qamishlo city Wala Ferman said "This year, they opened the only industrial school in Qamishlo city and faced some difficulties with students because of the lack of teaching staff. Besides, teaching restricted to the theoretical axes, while giving practical lessons was not possible in parallel with the theoretical section, because of the lack of the number of teachers in the school.

Wala noted that, they added to the curriculum, the Kurdish language, culture and ethics, in addition to that, weekly lectures are organized for students.

She called for the teachers who have experience in Rojava and holders of industrial degrees in the industrial school to join as a teacher, to contribute to the development of the industrial field in Rojava.

At the end of her talk, Wala Farman pointed out that they are working to modernize the operation and activate it during the coming year, by introducing the modern industry techniques (lathe, maintenance of computers, engines), but renewed its invitation to the experts to review the school administration in order to contribute to the development of Industrial reality in the area.
