Sharif Mardini ... a peacemaker in times of war

He saw joining the ranks of People Protection Units (YPG)as a duty he had assumed since the beginning of the revolution, leaving his studies at the law school that he had dreamed of graduating from. Martyr Sherif Mardini  whose nom de guerre is Akri young man who gave himself to the revolution to be martyr.

Mardini opened his eyes to life in Tel -Hagar neighborhood in al-Hasakah city  in 1994, until he reached the university stage he did not complete to join the ranks of the revolution.

Mardini distinguished himself by his social personality between neighbors, he did not know boredom or surrender in the way of getting what he wanted, he odored playing football, and the race was to teach his Arabic-speaking friends Kurdish language, his mother tongue.

He gave up studying to join the revolution

Mustafa Mardini, the father of the martyr Sharif, said that when his son began studying law, his dream was to graduate from there in the hope that he would make some progress in the case of the arrest of Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocelan legally.

After finishing  his first term of study of law, he stopped his studies to join the revolution, because the mercenary gangs that then called themselves "Free Army" and " al-Nusra Front "they attacked from time to time Rojava regions

The father of the martyr Sharif said that he once told his son that his studies are important and he should not leave them. He reminds him that graduating from law school was his dream, but Sharif's answer was as follows: "My father, I have not forgotten, but joining the revolution at this time is very necessary. "The leader emphasizes the need to protect our land if we are endangered because study and learning is not enough to protect humanity so we must join the revolution."

Sharif had a great level of awareness that enabled him to see the necessities of the stage in the region, which contributed to the decision to join the revolution.

Protecting neighborhoods First Step

After taking the decision to join the revolution, Sharif joined the ranks of the protection forces in al-Hasakah city throughout the evening in order to guard against any external aggression while the Syrian cities were witnessing fierce fighting between the regime and the armed  gangs of the so-called "Syrian opposition."

The baathist regime also existed in al- Hasakah city was always seeking to stir up sedition among Arabs and Kurds. It trained gangs ofAbo Maish clan to attack the Kurds in Tel- Hagar neighborhood, known as the Kurdish neighnorhood in al-Hasakah city , but Sharif and his friends resisted the attempt to stir up sedition.

Vanguard in everything

Sharif joined to protection units to develop his contribution to the revolution, and then joined a number of his comrades in a battalion of units in which they received training over several days.

"He was the avant-garde in everything that was done within the battalion," recalls Shorsh Ciya the companion of the martyr Sharif Mardini (Akri), who is his companion. "We would spend days we would never forget."

His active spirit and spontaneous movements were implanted within everyone he saw the love of life. The slogan he always uttered was "Long live the resistance of protection units and no life without the leader."

Shoresh says that Akri was always talking about expanding the strength of protection units to a greater resonance in the world. He took training mainly in life to be fit in the thought of Ocelan and secure a beautiful life for future generations for their non-living, which they spent in injustice and deprivation.

We fight to protect ourselves and not love of war

After attacks by Jabhit al –Nusra 's mercenaries on al-Jazeera canton 's villages ans areas in Rojava , In particular Derik villages espacially Rumailan Pasha village , unit commanders sent Akri with a group of comrades in reinforcements to the villages under attack.

The war was bitter at the time, his comrades recalled that Akri was telling them, "We are here to protect our people and ourselves and not the love of war."

He joins the Martyrs' convoy after great resistance

On the night of September 11, 2013, Jabhit al-Nusra /al-Nusra Front 's attacked Tel- Rumailan Pasha village . The martyr Akri and his comrades were stationed in one of the schools in the village. The martyr Akri and his comrades confronted the mercenary attack. After heroic resistance, Akri martyred with some of his comrades in Rumailan Pasha village belonging to Gel-Agha in Qamishlo canton.
