Hermi Sheikho a model of communal village

The village residents work in a spirit of partnership and live together as one family and are united as one body, and the villagers share their joys and distresses together.

The villagers do not go to the city to buy their vegetables, bread, meat and dairy products. They provide most of their daily needs, depending on what they plant on their land and on their livestock.

People of Hermi Shiekho village, in a cooperative and participatory spirit, established a fund about 15 years ago to support poor families or in the event of any emergency for a village resident, especially in cases of illness or death of an individual. The Fund provides funds to the sick or deceased to spend treatment or solace.

Mohammed Ali Kuti, one of village notable, takes care of the fund and ensures that it is kept. The parents go to his home every month to put the money in the box.

The village has about 40 houses, each family pays 500 Syrian pounds per month, which puts about 20,000 Syrian pounds per month from the residents living in the village. In addition, the families or youth of the village who emigrated or work abroad are still sending money to the village fund.

In this context, the correspondents of our (ANHA )agency interviwed with Mohamed Ali Kuti to learn about the communes system of their village and how to organize themselves to serve the village.

Kuti his age 80 years noted that the age of their village exceeds the century, and still characterized by its social customs and living together as a family by sharing the joys and relying on the self-potentials primarily in the provision of their daily needs of food based on agriculture and livestock, Making handmade bread in "Tanoor".

On the social solidarity of the people of the village, he said: "In the past, the villagers were willing to provide material and moral support to every individual or family from the village in the event of a calamity, and each family was able to offer it. In some cases, some families offered sacrifices to the deceased to serve as meals for the mourners under the tents of solace. "

Kuti added "But recently, due to the changing conditions and the desire to participate in helping the village, we set up a village fund for nearly 15 years. At first we asked each family to put 50 SYP per month in the fund, 100 liras due to the devaluation of the Syrian pound, and after the start of the Syrian crisis and the collapse of the Syrian pound, we raised it to 500 S.P month.

Kuti noted that the fund is only for the people of their village, and a lot of neighboring villages have asked to participate with them in the fund, but they have preferred the village to remain independent and to encourage them to build on their own.

Hermi Sheikho village is located west of Qamislo city about 10 km.
