Russia calls on activating Turkish-Russian memorandum on Idlib, separation of  opposition from terrorists

In a press brief, Maria Zakharova,  the ministry spokeswoman, said: "From our part, we are taking steps to keep the situation under control, but there can be no tolerance without an end with the presence of a terrorist enclave in Idlib.  In this context, Russia calls for activating the procedures which aim at implementation of the entire Sochi note on Idlib, from September 17, 2018, particularly with the  regard to the establishment of a demilitarized zone there, and the separation of the so-called moderate opposition from the terrorists."

Zakharova pointed out that in comparison with the last month, the armed men who were stationed in the area had increased significantly their shelling of the regime forces positions, killing 90 Syrian soldiers since the beginning of this month.

In September last year, the Russian and Turkish Presidents ,Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan agreed to establish a demilitarized zone in Idlib province in northwestern Syria, 15-20 km wide line between the positions of the Syrian regime and the mercenary groups linked with Turkey.

Last Tuesday, the Syrian General Staff announced that regime forces had taken control of more than 40 villages and towns in Idlib province as a result of the army's offensive there, calling on the civilians to leave the places under the control of the mercenaries.

It is worthy to mention that strategic centers such as Jargazzaz village, 10 kilometers away from Ma'arat al-Numan town, south of Idlib, is among the towns controlled by the regime.
