YRA and YRJ denounce attack on  Stêrk and Medya Haber TV

The Women's Media Union and the Free Media Union denounced the attack on the centers of Stêrk TV and Medya Haber TV, and considered it part of a comprehensive attack on all of Kurdistan, and a war of extermination directed against the Kurdish people.

 The Women's Media Union and the Free Media Union in North and East Syria made a joint statement denouncing the attack on the StêrkTV and Medya Haber TV centers (April 23) by the Belgian police.

The statement was read in front of the Muhammad Sheikho Center for Culture and Art in the city of Qamishlo, in the presence of dozens of journalists.

During the statement, which was read by a member of the governing body of the Women’s Media Union, Newroz Damhat, and in Arabic by a member of the Free Media Union, Akram Barakat, chants such as “Long live the resistance to the free media” and “Long live the resistance of the Kurdish people” were chanted.

The statement affirmed at its beginning that “the free media represents the voice of the people and is in a constant challenge to convey the reality of the people,” and “that the free media is waging a great struggle. It has made great sacrifices in order to expose the reality of the occupation and its attacks on the free values ​​of the people, and during this struggle it has became the voice of oppressed peoples in the face of all attacks.”

The statement pointed out that the Belgian police, at around 1:30 midnight tonight (Tuesday), attacked the center of the Stêrk and Medya Haber TV.

At the same time, dozens of journalists were arrested in Istanbul and Ankara, and it was made clear that the occurrence of these attacks at this stage was “not just a coincidence,” as they coincided with the Kurdish Press Day and the major threats directed at the will of the Kurdish people.

The statement explained that “this attack is part of the attacks on the peoples of Kurdistan,” and that it is “against the free will that calls out loudly against the occupation, and seeks to reveal the truth and circumstances of these attacks to public opinion,” pointing out that similar attacks have occurred, but these attacks are at this time, is only part of the comprehensive attack on all of Kurdistan, it is part of the genocidal attacks against the Kurds.”

The Women's Media Union and the Free Media Union confirmed in the statement that "these attacks are part of the occupation's attacks on us," and added: "We want to say to our people and to public opinion, we can’t be silenced by these attacks, and we will always work to convey the truth that our people believe in and who struggle and make great sacrifices for it.”

On this basis, the two unions called on “all our fellow journalists, to confront these attacks, by conveying the voice of the truth and defending it, and we stress that no one can stop the free voice and prevent the exposure of the genocidal attacks in Kurdistan, and conveying the heroic resistance witnessed in Kurdistan to the entire world.”

At the same time, it called on "all our people to believe in and support their free media."
