YPJ: Female leadership of Kobani resistance gave faith, hope to the whole world

The General Command of the Women's Protection Units (YPJ) published a statement on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Kobani Resistance.

The YPJ General Command said: “For the dominant powers that see their existence in extermination and killing, Kobani has become a message confirming that they do not accept any form of slavery and do not kneel before it.”

Kobani is a sign of victory for people's hopes for freedom

The statement continued: “With the light of thought created by Leader Abdullah Ocalan, it was the patriotic and resistant position of the Kurdish people, and the people’s joining in a guerrilla spirit to the line of leadership, which achieved victory in Kobani, and on this basis, we, the Women’s Protection Units, salute the leader of the democratic nation, Leader Abdul God Ocalan, and we renew our connection with him, Leader Abdullah Ocalan, who began the struggle and worked constantly so that the fate of the peoples would not be written again in the hands of the dominant powers. If the entire world knew the resistance to Kobani and saw his presence in this resistance, there is no doubt that the greatest effort was made by Leader Abdullah. For this reason, Ocalan, the Kurdish people, with their resistance stance at the beginning in Kobani, and to the four sides of the country and the entire world, also embraced the efforts of the leader, and with this insistence, our people in Kobani defeated ISIS mercenaries and its supporters.

Kobani is the greatest proof of the fulfillment of peoples’ hopes for freedom. The victory of Kobani, and the position of the Kurdish people and all democratic and freedom-pioneering peoples looking towards the future, is an indication of that. We remember with respect all our immortal martyrs who resisted until the last breath against the brutality prevailing in this era and did not take a step backward in their struggle. The victory of Kobani came as a result of the great efforts of the internationalist fighters and the male and female leaders of the People’s Protection Units and the Women’s Protection Units, and on this basis we proudly salute all our leaders and fighters. We congratulate our people, women and all forces determined to build a democratic life again.

The women's revolution began in Kobani

The world, which had been silenced against fascist practices, raised its voice in Kobani, led by women. ISIS was sent to our regions as a cover for all forces with self-interests, but the reality of ISIS’s brutality was an expression of all global forces seeking to destroy humanity, and for this reason, and in the first place, The four parties from Kurdistan and all the international parties demanding freedom and democracy, and writing for human values, evaluated the genocidal attacks in Kobani as a geographical issue, and from this standpoint the women’s revolution began in Kobani, became famous for protecting Kobani and spread throughout north-eastern Syria.

The women-led Kobani resistance allowed humanity to organize itself as a democratic circle. The Kurdish youth’s defense of their land and society allowed the flood of freedom to rise in the face of the wave of fascism, and all the forces that threw the mask of ISIS over their faces remain under this flood. Those who took the lead in Kobani’s historical resistance are the Kurdish women. This women’s leadership allowed Kobani to become a place of determination and confidence in establishing the democratic nation system. This faith gave strength and hope to the whole world, and on this basis, the Kobani resistance became global and gained an international level.

The revolution that arose as a result of struggle and a great price is still being attacked by the Turkish occupation state on a daily basis, and the Turkish state continues to carry out genocide operations without interruption with its attacks on Kobani, all the way to Afrin, Serê Kaniyê and Girê Spi. The world that spoke about the steadfastness and heroism of this people during the resistance to Kobani was impressed. With its support, Kobani remains silent in the face of the attacks of the Turkish occupation state. Kobani has become a city that honors all democracy-loving societies by fighting and resisting ISIS, but today the same city is under attack by Turkey, which has a more terrifying ideology than ISIS, and in return for that. The current silence is approval of these attacks, and of course, what will definitely stop these attacks is the reaction of women and the people.

In our day, the only thing that can make the global resistance against fascism successful is to protect and strengthen the spirit of Kobani. Resistance to Kobani is the destruction of the borders of the nation-state. We, as comrades of Revana, Arin, Medea, Zahra, Kalhat, Hardem and many other heroes whose efforts and resistance will not be denied by history, remember all Martyrs of the revolution, we pledge to achieve their goals and adhere to them, and in the end, we call on all our people and all the peoples of the world that the desire for a free life will be achieved with the adoption of the Kobani resistance.”
