Afrin was the safest and most stable region, and the Kurds, Arabs, Turkmen, and other components lived together in peace under the umbrella of the Autonomous Administration, until the Turkish occupation state attacked it on January 20, 2018, and occupied it after a heroic resistance that lasted 58 days.

In this context, Amina Suleiman, one of the witnesses to the resistance that lasted 58 days and the massacres of Trinda and the Mahmoudiyah neighborhood, spoke to ANHA's agency.

Amina Suleiman from the village of Trinda, a mother of 3 children, participated in the resistance that lasted 58 days, as she explained that she participated in defending the neighborhoods, streets, and villages of her city. She said: “I participated in defending the village and the Afrin region. I was caring for the wounded in the health center."

Amina Suleiman commented on the Tarinda massacre, saying: “One night, one of the remaining four families in the village was targeted, and the massacre at that time resulted in the martyrdom of 3 children. We suffered a lot and did not leave our village until the end, and we mourned our martyrs as well.”

After leaving the village, Amina headed to the Ashrafieh neighborhood in Afrin, where she continued her struggle and participated in defending the neighborhood.

As for the Mahmoudiyah neighborhood massacre, Amina said: “The Turkish bombing was increasing day after day, and our fears were increasing, as was our pain and suffering. Everyone was trying to save their children from the bombing, and I still remember the massacre that took place in the Mahmoudiyah neighborhood well, and it hurt me more than ever.” Another thing is that we were not able to funeral the bodies of the martyrs of the massacre.”

Amina Suleiman continued her speech: “International and humanitarian organizations remained silent at the time regarding those massacres and violations, and they continue to remain silent until now.”

Amina Suleiman concluded her speech by saying: “We resisted in Afrin for 58 days, and we will resist here now until we return to Afrin. We will not accept any other option other than resistance and struggle.”
