A diplomatic source told Agence France-Presse that the meeting in Paris will be the first of its kind between Syrian Transitional Government Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shibani and Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer.

The source, who requested anonymity, stated that the meeting is being facilitated by U.S. envoy to Syria, Tom Barrack, who is expected to arrive in Paris.

The source added that the meeting will address the situation in southern Syria, where sectarian clashes have resulted in over 1,300 deaths in the past week.

The clashes in Sweida began on July 13 between local military forces in Sweida and forces affiliated with the Transitional Government.

The diplomatic source noted that Al-Shibani is expected to arrive in Paris today.

Israeli Minister Ron Dermer has already arrived in the French capital, according to a maritime source.

U.S. envoy Tom Barrack is expected to arrive in Paris and meet with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot on Friday morning, according to a source in the French Foreign Ministry.

A prior meeting between officials from the Transitional Government and Israel took place on July 12 in Baku, on the sidelines of Ahmed Al-Sharaa’s visit to Azerbaijan, according to a diplomatic source in Damascus familiar with the talks between the two sides.
