Najat Rochdi, the Deputy Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General to Syria, urged achieving justice and uncovering the truth to prevent the recurrence of torture crimes in Syria. Speaking on the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, she expressed solidarity with all Syrians who suffered from these violations, emphasizing that their courage demands a pursuit of a future where dignity is restored.

Rochdi noted that "in Syria, torture was systematic and widespread," describing torture in the former regime’s prisons as a "crime against humanity." She stressed that "there is no healing without justice, no peace without truth, and no future without accountability."

The UN official, in her statement, highlighted the necessity for "the transitional phase and legislative reforms to ensure such crimes are never repeated," adding that "this is the truest way to honor those who sacrificed their lives for justice."
