Turkish authorities sentenced the mayor of Gulmirk to 19 years and 6 months in prison

The Turkish authorities issued a prison sentence of 19 years and 6 months against the mayor of Gulmirk in Northern Kurdistan, amid his confirmation during his appearance before the judge of the authorities’ court that he is committed to his case, and he said: “I have fulfilled my responsibilities on the political level, so I stand before you tall and proud of myself.”

The hearing for the mayor of Gulmirk in Northern Kurdistan, Muhammad Sadiq Aksh, who was removed from his position and a guardian was appointed on his behalf, began in the First Supreme Criminal Court in Gulmirk. 14 people are being tried in this case, but only Akash appeared before the judge.

During the session, Akash defended himself, explaining that the issue has political dimensions and said: “I say that the current file is also a political file. I am proud and proud of myself. I am 53 years old and have been fighting for years and I will always continue my struggle. There are some rumors circulating about my intention to flee, but... This is not true. I never had such an intention and I will never escape. I bear responsibility for my decisions and actions, and I have fulfilled my responsibilities and duties on the political level. Therefore, I stand before you and proud of myself. I have always defended the principles of peace, brotherhood, equality and freedom throughout my life, and I will continue to do so. I do not I fear arrest and imprisonment. Once again, I stand before you and do not ask for your acquittal or release.”

Akash concluded his plea by saying: "I demand that the indictment be re-prepared. Why was I not tried before now? I know that my trial is a political trial. I did everything for the benefit of my people and I performed my job for my people with honor."

After Akash's plea, his lawyers began their arguments in his defense.

At the end of the session, the First Supreme Criminal Court in the city of Gulmirk in Northern Kurdistan issued a 19-year and 6-month prison sentence against the co-chair of the municipality of Gulmirk, Muhammad Siddiq Aksh.
