Tribal leaders in Derik reject attempts to incite discord

Tribal leaders and elders in Derik stressed that Arab tribes had nothing to do with acts of sabotage committed by individuals in their name. They emphasized that awareness and peaceful coexistence among Arabs, Kurds and other communities were the strongest bulwark against all schemes targeting the region.

The Jazira has been home to diverse ethnic and religious communities, including Arabs, Kurds, Syriac-Assyrians, Chaldeans and others, who have lived together for decades in a spirit of brotherhood and civil peace. However, some parties seek to sow discord among these communities to serve their personal interests. They continuously attempt to spread chaos and incite divisions, exploiting the name of Arab tribes to achieve their objectives.

In this regard, Hawas Jdeia, a Tay tribal leader and general supervisor of the Council of Tribal Elders in the Eastern Region, explained that the recent events and acts of sabotage witnessed in Hasakah city had been falsely attributed to Arab tribes.

“Arab tribes have deep roots and a long history, and they have absolutely nothing to do with these events and acts of sabotage. Three main parties are behind these attempts to incite discord: ISIS cells, some government officials and the Turkish state. These parties are exploiting the name of Arab tribes to ignite tensions between Arabs and Kurds and advance their narrow agendas and interests at the expense of the lives of all communities, including Kurds, Arabs, Syriac-Assyrians and Chaldeans,” Jdeia said.

He noted that those invoking the name of the tribes to inflame public sentiment had no genuine ties to the tribes, describing them as groups beholden to foreign agendas and suspicious cells.

Jdeia called on the people of the region and all Arab and Kurdish tribes to stand united against these schemes.

Concluding his remarks, Hawas Jdeia said: “Our message to members of Arab tribes is to reject chaos and denounce hate speech, which will bring hardship and undermine civil peace. We must preserve our historical ties and coexistence to protect our governorate. The enemy's primary objective is to undermine security, our achievements and our bonds of brotherhood. We have full confidence in the awareness of the people of the region and their refusal to be drawn into these provocations.”

For his part, Abduljabbar Tay, a member of the Council of Tribal Elders in the Derik area, stressed the deep historical relations and social ties that have united the region's communities for decades.

“The Kurdish and Arab peoples have lived together for decades, but there are destructive forces seeking to disrupt this relationship and create chaos among us,” Tay added.

“We live and work together in a region characterized by stability and civil peace. That is why attempts to undermine this reality are intensifying,” he continued.

Tay highlighted the social, economic and political interconnectedness among the governorate's communities.

Concluding his remarks, he said: “We are all bound by shared traditions and family and social ties. We share celebrations and live our social, economic and political lives side by side. Today, it is our duty to preserve this original social fabric and refuse to succumb to suspicious agendas seeking to sow discord and spread chaos.”
