The director of the Drinking Water Corporation in Sweida, Muthanna Abo Assaf, reported that the Syrian transitional government has not paid employee salaries for more than two months.

He explained that the corporation employs approximately 2,800 employees, including approximately 1,000 day laborers, 700 on annual contracts, and the rest on permanent contracts.

He pointed out that "the salaries of permanent employees for September and October have not yet been paid, while employees on annual contracts have not received their dues for August and September, as for the day laborers, their salaries have been completely cut off since the start of the military assault on Sweida."

He confirmed that the financial block allocated for wages and salaries is estimated at approximately 2 billion and 600 million Syrian pounds after the recent increase, but that the available funding does not cover these expenses due to the delay in transferring the allocations from the Ministry of Finance.

He explained that the ministry requires that payment orders be signed by the former envoy to Sweida, Governor Mustafa al-Bakour, who currently resides in the town of Mazraa, the government's temporary headquarters. This has sparked widespread discontent among local communities.
