The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights published its tally of those killed and victimized by acts of violence, crimes, and killings driven by sectarian and retaliatory motives during 2025. Civilians ranked first in terms of numbers, including children and women, amid escalating violence, security breakdown, and widespread chaos across the country.

According to the Observatory’s documentation for 2025, a total of 9,272 people were killed, including 7,087 civilians, among them 504 children and 550 women. These deaths occurred through various methods, including extrajudicial killings, assassinations and field executions, torture and ill-treatment, armed clashes, explosions and targeted attacks, ISIS mercenary attacks, and remnants of war.

Among this total, 2,939 people were executed in the field, including 68 children and 213 women, during waves of sectarian violence that affected Syria’s coastal regions, the interior, the south, and other areas.
