"They burned livelihood of 20 families".. Story of farmer whose crop burned by Turkish soldiers
Regret covers his face as he moves through his land, carrying the remaining ashes of wheat that were burned by the fire of the Turkish occupation soldiers, and he contemplates the aftermath of the fire after watching the flames consume the livelihood of his family.
He contemplates the suffering of his life, which was consumed by the fire of the Turkish occupation soldiers, and regrets what he had planned for himself and his family of 20 families.
Faris Muhammad Ali Sayyid Salo, who owns 200 dunams of land, more than half of which was burned by the actions of the Turkish occupation soldiers on Sunday evening. The fire resulted in a huge loss, as 20 families were affected, in addition to the loss of the costs he spent, as he put approximately 3 tons of wheat in the land as seed, in addition to the expenses of care until the harvest season.
In detail, the Turkish occupation army soldiers stationed on the border set fire to the agricultural lands opposite the villages of Kharab Kort in the northwestern countryside of Qamishlo, and the villages of Ta'alki and Douda in the countryside of Amuda in the Jazera Canton in NE Syria region, on Sunday evening, causing the burning of more than 800 dunums of wheat.
Sayyid Salo, one of the farmers whose crops were burned, expected his land to produce about 250 to 300 bags of wheat, meaning that each bag would yield 25 bags of wheat, before the Turkish occupation soldiers burned his crop.
Our only sin is that we are neighbours of chauvinistic mercenary
According to Salo, Sayyid Salo’s family of 20 families relies mainly on the annual income from this land. They planned several projects after harvesting the wheat crop and delving into agriculture to improve the quality of production, in addition to opening family projects. However, the burning of the land caused them great financial losses, and their dreams and hopes were shattered.
He says regretfully: “We can only say, ‘There is no power or strength except with God. What the Turkish occupation is doing, no one else has done. Our only sin is that we are neighbors of a savage, chauvinistic mercenary who does not possess an ounce of humanity. We do not know what they want from us and why they harbor such hatred and malice towards us?”
Farmers in North and East Syria are increasingly concerned about the Turkish occupation state targeting their crops.
As the harvest season approaches, and to confront these risks, the Democratic Autonomous Administration annually forms committees to protect crops, and also provides fire engines for rapid intervention for any fires.
Farmers and observers of Syrian affairs see Turkey and its mercenaries setting fire to farmers’ crops and targeting them as ambushes to undermine the livelihoods of the people of North and East Syria, a policy of starvation and practicing a private war, and it poses a real threat to farmers and their ability to continue producing and harvesting their crops.
