TEV-DEM rejects Damascus conference, calls for a decentralized democratic Syria

The Democratic Society Movement (TEV-DEM) issued a statement rejecting the National Dialogue Conference held recently in Damascus, describing it as "not representative of the Syrian people" and reflecting a "mentality of exclusion and denial" that is no different from the policies of the former regime.

The movement stressed in its statement that the conference failed to fulfill its promises to build a pluralistic and democratic Syria, noting that the conference invitees and the preparatory committee were formed by "one party," which led to the exclusion of representatives of different components and cultures, especially women. The movement described the outcomes of the conference as "representing only those who organized it", expressing its concern about the repetition of the scenarios of the "Victory Conference" that imposed specific agendas without truly representing the will of the people.

The statement pointed out that the TEV-DEM movement, since the beginning of the Syrian revolution, has worked to build a free democratic society in North and East Syria, where the Democratic Autonomous Administration system was announced that "embraced all cultures and components and achieved pluralism and freedom", highlighting the pioneering role of women in this framework.

The movement called for building a new Syria based on a democratic decentralized system, in which women are a fundamental partner in decision-making, stressing that the Syrian people "deserve democracy, freedom and equality after years of oppression, destruction and displacement".

The statement concluded by rejecting the policies of marginalization and exclusion, and emphasizing the continuation of the struggle for a "free, democratic and decentralized Syria" that is worthy of the sacrifices of the Syrian people
