Today, the Democratic Society Movement issued a statement to public opinion, in which it denounced the bombing of the Turkish occupation targeting the NE Syria region, its citizens and its agricultural lands.

The statement reads: “These days, the villages of Afrin, Shahba and Manbij Cantons are being subjected to intense missile and artillery bombardment by the Turkish occupation state and its mercenaries, as another massacre was committed in the village of Samouqa, located on the Shahba Dam, which led to a number of civilians being seriously injured, including children who are still being treated in Avrin Hospital.

Regarding the aime of the attacks, the statement also explained: “Direct attacks on agricultural lands and on citizens are the pursuit of a scorched earth policy, that is, the policy of burning green and dry land practiced by the Turkish occupation state along the border strip, and threatening them not to approach their agricultural lands and harvest their crops, and this is considered a legal violation.”

The statement noted: “The people of Afrin and Shahba Canton, especially the IDPs, have been besieged for 6 years by the Turkish occupation state and its mercenaries on one hand, and by the Damascus government on the other hand, and they are still resisting the siege operations imposed on them despite all policies of extermination, siege and starvation, but the occupation is escalating its attacks to take revenge on this will, the resistance that constitutes the basis for a free life based on national revolutionary bases.”

The statement also read: "We call on the international community, first and foremost the United Nations and its institutions, to put pressure on the Turkish occupation, to end its attacks and crimes against the people of the region, and we affirm that the Turkish occupation takes advantage of international silence to escalate its attacks."
