A local source in the occupied countryside of Afrin reported that the mukhtar (village head) of Ali Kara village in the Bulbul district, Nuri Mohamed Falaka (Abo Ali), imposed a tax of 21 tins of olive oil on the citizen Shawqi Mohamed, with the direct support of Turkish-backed mercenaries, using threats and weapons.

The citizen was forced to pay out of fear of arbitrary abduction or fabricated charges, amid widespread insecurity and escalating violations against the region's original inhabitants, particularly Kurds.

Since its occupation by the Turkish army and its mercenaries in 2018, Afrin and its surrounding countryside have witnessed a surge in extortion, property seizures, and arbitrary arrests, exacerbating the suffering of the residents and forcing many into displacement, all without any legal accountability for those responsible.
