A press conference was held today in the Syrian capital, Damascus, where several political parties and civil society organizations, including the Syrian Democratic Council, declared the official establishment of the "Syrian Equal Citizenship Alliance", also known as "Tamasok" ( Solidarity).

The event, held at the Armitage Hotel, was attended by prominent political and media figures. The Syrian Democratic Council was represented by its co-chair, Layla Qara Man, alongside vice presidents Ali Rahmun and Afram Ishaq.

At its inception, the alliance comprises 35 political and societal entities, with an open-door policy for the inclusion of additional Syrian political and civil forces in the future.

The alliance aims to consolidate the role of national forces in building a democratic society and to put forth a clear initiative toward a democratic and civil Syria.

According to the founding statement, the alliance is not merely a symbolic declaration but an organizational framework designed to establish clear political and ideological positions. This announcement marks the first step toward shaping a comprehensive vision on national issues. The alliance also seeks to clarify political positions and present a broad national project based on the principles of democracy, pluralism, and decentralization, with a commitment to playing an active role in Syria’s future political processes.

The alliance’s founding statement outlines several key principles, including:

Preserving Syria’s unity—both its land and people—under a single state and a unified national army whose sole function is national defense and which remains neutral in political affairs.

Safeguarding civil peace by countering revenge-driven mindsets, hate speech, and sectarian incitement, while criminalizing the denial of crimes and atrocities committed by the fallen regime. It also underscores the importance of learning from past conflicts and human rights violations, particularly in the Syrian coastal regions, to prevent their recurrence.

Alleviating extreme poverty that the vast majority of Syrians endure by reviving the national economy and ensuring a dignified livelihood for all citizens.

Utilizing all available means to reclaim Syrian territories under occupation, with the occupied Golan Heights being a priority.

Achieving a just and democratic resolution to the Kurdish issue within Syria.

Advancing the rights of Syrian women and youth, recognizing their pivotal role in the country’s future.

The participants concluded by reaffirming that the alliance remains open to all national forces willing to engage in joint efforts to realize a comprehensive democratic national project that guarantees the rights of all Syrians and sets the country on a path toward political and social stability.
