The Syrian transitional government's forces entered a state of alert on Tuesday evening in border areas with Iraq, deploying military units across the region without disclosing the reasons for the deployment.

According to media reports, the Ministry of Defense instructed its forces to raise their readiness to Alert Level "C", adding that the movements may include units from the 72nd Division.

For his part, Iraqi Border Forces Commander Lt. Gen. Mohammed Abdul Wahab Sukkar Al-Saeedi said the security situation along the Syrian border is normal, explaining that the Syrian military movements are being conducted with the knowledge of and in joint coordination between both sides.

Al-Saeedi said "there is currently no threat along the border," noting that information-sharing and coordination between the Iraqi and Syrian border forces continue, while emphasizing that Iraqi forces remain fully deployed to secure the border.
